✈️ Sharing our go-to travel cards, in case you’re also looking for an easy way to bring money while traveling overseas. Both cards do not charge annual fees and are pretty cheap to get. They are also easy to top-up and can be easily managed through their respective apps.

-

💳 The first card that we love is the Wise Travel Card.

✨ If you’re not familiar with Wise (formerly Transferwise), it is a digital bank that provides international transfer and currency conversion services around the world. I’ve used Wise for a long time to send money to family overseas, and I can vouch for how great they are! The transfer is always fast and easy to track, and most importantly, the currency conversion rates are great (almost similar to the ones you see on Google). Especially compared to the insane rates local banks charge plus the hidden fees, using Wise to spend money overseas is a no-brainer!

💰 To get the Wise card, all you need to do is open an account with Wise and request for a card to be sent to you (a one time SGD 9 fee payable). The card works like a prepaid debit card where you have to preload the money into your Wise account before spending.

↔️ The Wise account itself enables you to open sub-accounts in different currencies and pre-convert your money into the desired currency before spending (as of now, 50+ currencies are supported). While you’re spending overseas, the card will automatically use the local currency of the country you’re in — this way, you’re not at the mercy of the current conversion rates. You can convert your money in a big chunk when the rates are favourable and spend them later. If no local currency is found in your account, the card will simply convert the balance that you have into the local currency at an extremely fair conversion rate.

🏧 And perhaps my most favourite feature of the card, you can use it to withdraw cash from ATMs worldwide! This is especially helpful if you’re traveling to countries that do not have a wide credit card adoption or want to visit more traditional attractions like local markets, etc. You can top-up your account balance in real time and cash it out at the nearest ATM.

📱 The Wise card is also usable with Google or Apple Pay if you don’t want to carry the card around, or want multiple people to use the card at the same time (e.g : one person uses the physical card and one person uses the digital card).

💳 The second card we’re using to travel is the Trust card.

✨ A digital bank started by a partnership between Standard Chartered and Fairprice, it provides a lot of perks for using the card overseas. The Trust card doesn’t provide multiple currency accounts and its currency conversion fees don't live up to Wise’s, but this card doesn’t charge foreign exchange fees unlike other banks (usually ~3.5%).

The Trust card obviously can’t win against the Wise card, but we like it as a secondary card in case we lose our other card. The physical card is also numberless, so you don’t have to worry about getting your card details stolen while traveling. If you ever lose your card, you can easily lock your card via the app and all transactions to the card will be automatically blocked.

ℹ️ To use this card overseas, you just need to turn on the ‘Overseas’ button in the Transaction Controls menu. You can also easily keep track of your spendings + top up money into your account through their app.

⭐️ The Trust card also has a very attractive reward structure, from a $25 Fairprice voucher upon sign up, an extra $10 voucher if you sign up with a referral code (you can quote E2N03FS2 when you sign up, so we both get $10 each), Kopitiam voucher, and many more.

Other popular travel cards are Revolut and YouTrip, although we've never used them so can't personally vouch for them.
