Budget Appliances Shopping✨💸🛁For Frugal Homeowners

Like many frugal homeowners, we visited many stores to compare prices during our reno. In addition to well-known chains like Gain City, Courts and Harvey Norman, we also visited many smaller stores to see what they offer. Despite being smaller, there are many stores that offer competitive prices for their wares. Surprisingly, the prices were even better than what we found in the bigger chains!

We bought most of our appliances from these smaller stores and never regretted it. There are of course some downsides to buying from smaller stores (stores in 'ulu' locations, customer service not as good as big chains, stores only carry limited items, etc.), but we find that the price saving is worth the trade off.

✨Here are a few smaller stores we love to compare prices for appliances:

1. General Appliances & Kitchen 🍳⏲

⚪️Audiohouse

To be fair, Audiohouse is not exactly a small store - but I'm placing it here because they offer really competitive prices compared to the other chains! From the few times we visited, their customer service was pretty good too with many sales representatives around to guide you.

⚪️Mega Discount Store

We bought our aircon system from them and they were significantly cheaper than the bigger chains we visited. However, we found their customer service to be extremely lacking (they forgot to schedule our aircon delivery even after we called to confirm TWICE and caused a delay in our reno*) - so do consider if this is worth saving the extra $$ for.

* Happened to our friend too, so it doesn't seem to be a rare occurrence.

⚪️HoeKee

They carry limited items but still worth dropping by to compare prices. Despite not being a big store, they carry a wide range of items from fans, kitchen appliances to washing machines.

⚪️Goh Ah Bee

Similar to Hoekee, Goh Ah Bee is pretty small but carries a wide range of items. They've been around for a while and offer really competitive prices - definitely worth a visit.

2. Lights & Fans ✨💡🎐

⚫️Tampoi (JB)

Now that the border restrictions have been lifted, you can consider going to Johor Bahru for your appliances shopping! Tampoi itself has always been famous for budget friendly lights, fans and other smaller electronics like doorbells and heaters. Because they are not located in Singapore, their prices are very competitive especially when compared to local stores.

⚫️Sembawang Lighting House

They carry a wide range of decor and ceiling lights, worth dropping by during your shopping spree.

⚫️DIYovation

We bought most of our light bulbs here and their prices are great! The customer service is really helpful too and it was a smooth transaction overall. This place can be pretty crowded on weekends (doesn't help that the store is pretty small too), so do plan ahead.

3. Bathroom 🚽🛁💦

🔵Hupfarri

We got our kitchen sink and faucet from them - they mostly sell products from their own Hupfarri brand, which quality we find decent and budget friendly. They also have their own showroom that you can visit before deciding to purchase.

🔵Lucky Khoon

From our comparisons, they are not cheapest - but they carry a wide range of brands, from TOTO, Hansgrohe to American Standard. Their TOTO range is especially extensive, which makes this place worth dropping by if you're a fan of the brand. They also have a showroom you can check out before buying.

🔵Heritage Bathroom

This place has many budget friendly options! Although they carry limited brands, we found their sales assistants to be extremely helpful in assisting us to find the right products. We bought one of our toilet bowls from them and the whole process was fuss-free.

🔵Sim Siang Choon

Another old player in the Singapore bathroom accessories scene; they have many branches around Singapore which make them slightly more accessible than the other stores.

🔵Mobili Living

They have a showroom that you can visit before buying and often run sales for their products. Worth visiting if you're a budget shopper!

🔵Bathroom Warehouse

They have 3 showrooms across Singapore which makes them highly accessible wherever you stay! They also carry a wide range of popular brands from American Standard, Hansgrohe, KOHLER and Duravit.

✨BONUS✨

Always check prices for the item that you want on Shopee. We bought some of our appliances there and despite our initial fear of being scammed, the items we've received are great. You can also try to see if the bigger chains are able to price match the items that you find on Shopee, so you get to enjoy both the lower price and added protection from buying from a well-known brand.
