Do you agree that eating with pretty dining wares can make the food taste better? Maybe that's why we go out and eat overpriced brunches at cafes, even when we can easily make them at home 😬

💸Pretty plates can be expensive, but we believe that they don't have to break the bank. The trick is to only buy them during sales, or only buy from stores that don't have a brick and mortar retail presence because their running cost is lower and can afford to sell the items at a cheaper price.

✨Here are some places we love to visit to buy our dining wares at a discounted price:

1. Warehouse Sales 🧾🛍

Most brick-and-mortar stores release seasonal items that go out of style after a few months. To clear stocks, they would usually hold warehouse sales with huge discounts! Recently we dropped by the Crate and Barrel's warehouse sale and got ourselves a few good quality plates, all at 40% off. They run warehouse sales quite often, so do follow their social channels so you don't miss another deal.

2. Moving Out Sales 🏬💲

Singapore is a tough place to run a business, it's no wonder that many stores close down from time to time. When that happens, they would run a sale to clear their stocks - most times at a steep discount. We got a few cute plates at Roomier's moving out sale the end of last year. While they do not have a physical store anymore, you can still book an appointment at their showroom to view their wares or shop exclusively online on their website.

3. Stores that accept CDC Vouchers 📃

Some stores accept CDC vouchers as payment; in fact, we paid for all the plates from Roomier with CDC vouchers! We're not sure if they still accept the vouchers as payment, but you can check with them if you're keen. When you are out shopping at other small/local retail stores, you can ask them if they accept the vouchers too.

4. Shopee or Taobao📱🛒

Shopee and Taobao are treasure troves for cute dining wares! There seems to be no end to the design you can choose from, all available at an affordable price. The items we've bought seem to be of decent quality too (comparable to IKEA stuffs) and the designs are pretty unique especially compared to what is available in Singapore. Most of the Shopee stores resell Taobao goods with a slight price increase, which is a good option to buy from if you're only buying a few items. If you're buying a lot of items and can make the shipping cost worthwhile, it's better to buy directly from Taobao because they have more selections and you don't need to pay for middleman fee.
