When I was a student, I lived in Copenhagen for years - So this summer I came back to visit! ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ

If you plan to visit Copenhagen, you should come during the summer when itโ€™s warm and sunny, rent a bike and discover the city โ˜€๏ธ ๐Ÿšฒ or you can visit in December/January when the lakes are froze, the city is under a blanket of snow and looks like a winter wonderland โ„๏ธ

Here is how I would plan a 2 day -1 night itinerary:

๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Day 1: Exploring Copenhagen's Landmarks ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿšข๐Ÿงœโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™๏ธ

Morning:

1. Nyhavn: Start your day at Nyhavn, Copenhagen's most iconic and picturesque harbor with colorful 17th-century buildings by the waterline. With many cafes and bars, this is a great place to enjoy the atmosphere, take photos, and consider hopping on a boat tour to see the city from the water. ๐Ÿšข

2. Amalienborg Palace: From Nyhavn, you can head to Amalienborg Palace, the official residence of the Danish royal family. You can witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony, which takes place at noon, in the palace square. ๐Ÿฐ

Right across the palace, is the Marble Church (Marmorkirken) which has a beautiful dome, and opulent marble facade. It is one of the highest domes in Europe!

3. The Little Mermaid: After that you can walk further or take a short bus or metro ride to see the iconic Little Mermaid statue, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale. It's located by the waterside at Langelinie, and while it's just a small statue, it is symbolic for Copenhagen ๐Ÿงœโ€โ™€๏ธ Fun fact: I used to work a student job in the office behind the Little Mermaid, so I saw the statue every week ๐Ÿ˜Š

**Optional:**

4. **Rosenborg Castle:** If you have an interest in castles and royal history, you can visit Rosenborg Castle, located not far from Strรธget. The castle showcases the Danish crown jewels and offers a glimpse into the opulent royal past. ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ’Ž

5. Vesterbro: In the afternoon, you can explore the trendy and hipster neighborhood of Vesterbro. Here, you'll find an array of quirky shops, stylish boutiques, and cozy cafes. The Meatpacking District (Kรธdbyen) is a particularly popular area with a lively atmosphere, art galleries, and great places to eat. โ˜•๐Ÿ›๏ธ Itโ€™s my favorite area to grab food (I might be biased because I used to live here for years) ๐Ÿ˜Š

Evening:

6. Dinner in Vesterbro: Choose one of the many eateries in Vesterbro to enjoy dinner. The neighborhood offers a diverse range of dining options, from traditional Danish cuisine to international restaurants and bistros๐Ÿด Here is a list of restaurants that I can recommend:

Brunch:

Mad & Kaffe

Nรณn Lรก Coffee

Grรธd

Dinner:

Delphine

Madklubben Vesterbro

Restaurant Spuntino

Restaurant Klubben

KรถD Vesterbro

7. Nightlife in Vesterbro: If you're up for a drink after dinner and want to discover Copenhagen's nightlife, Vesterbro has a fantastic selection of bars, pubs, and clubs around Meatpacking District, Copenhagen (Kรธdbyen)๐Ÿป๐ŸŽถ

๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐDay 2: Museums and Shopping ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Morning:

1. After breakfast In one the many great brunch places in Copenhagen, you should visit one of the museums.

Here is a list:

The National Museum of Denmark:

Get to know Danish history and culture at the National Museum. The museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts, including Viking treasures, medieval exhibits, and ethnographic displays. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ

The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek :

This is my favorite museum! Founded by the Carlsberg company's founder, Carl Jacobsen this museum houses his personal collection of ancient European art from the 19th and early 20th centuries ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ It also has a beautiful Winter Garden, under a big glass dome with lots of natural light, statues, palm trees and greenery ๐ŸŒด

Afternoon:

2. Shopping Day: After a lunch break, you can head to Strรธget, one of Europe's longest pedestrian shopping streets, with a mix of international brands, high-end fashion boutiques, Danish design shops, and souvenir stores.

You can also head towards to Frederiksberg and Vesterbro to go thrift shopping (I shared a list of thrift stores in Copenhagen in a post last month). ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘—

**Optional:**

4. Tivoli Gardens: As an optional evening activity, you can visit Tivoli Gardens, especially if you're visiting during a season when it's open (usually spring through early autumn). It's one of the world's oldest amusement parks and offers a magical atmosphere with rides, entertainment, and beautiful illuminations in the evening๐ŸŽก๐ŸŽข๐ŸŽ

This is how I would recommend my friends to visit Copenhagen whenever they visited me back when I was a student there ๐Ÿ˜Š Remember that this itinerary is just a suggestion, and you can adjust it based on your interests and pace. Copenhagen has many more attractions and hidden gems to discover, both in summer and in winter ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ
