try sg’s #1 pancakes before they’re gone 🥞😭

i'm not kidding when i say i'm devastated that i JUST FOUND this place, kyushu pancake and they're closing in June... not because they claim to be the TOP best voted pancake in singapore, and not because it's conveniently located in a heartland mall, junction 8 — but really because these might've been one of the best pancakes i've had in awhile 😭 let me tell you why so that you can make a trip down ASAP before they're gone forever 🥞

usually we don't really think much about heartland mall cafes because we'd think they'll lack that edge that standalone ones do - but i think kyushu pancake hit the spot quite well. it's a small, cozy space - but well-lit. all seats are pretty comfortable, especially the ones against the wall where you can lean back and just have a chat with friends and family. when i was there, i saw lots of families with their kids which was super cute 🧒

— ABOUT THE PANCAKES: DENSE & GUILT-FREE (ALMOST) 🤤

for some context, kyushu pancake is a popular chain with outlets in japan and taiwan as well — they're known for dense pancakes made with 7 different types of grains from Kyushu, Japan. no preservatives or additives are added in the pancakes and they're all made FRESH when you order 🧑‍🍳 all sauces and condiments are also handmade every morning, which means you're being served the best la.

all of their pancake flavours are super instagrammable too 📷 whether you're into berries, matcha/hojicha or even savory pancakes for brunch, they pretty much got you covered. what i love the most is how we often think flat, dense pancakes are easier to make — simply because they remind us of macs breakfasts; and souffle pancakes are usually the hype. but how they've elevated something so simple is what i really appreciate and enjoyed! 🍴

🍵 — hojicha tiramisu — $17.0

pancakes served wit hoji-cha mascarpone cheese, hoji-cha sauce and jelly along with a vanilla ice cream scoop

⚠️ the pancakes were made fresh, so do be prepared to wait for a bit - i think ours took about 15 - 20 minutes to arrive!

✔️ ok first things first - it was super instagrammable. from the cream atop the pancake to hojicha powder; what's there to not love?

✔️ it comes with hojicha sauce to drizzle over, and i liked that it wasn't too sweet but rather focused on bringing out the fragrance

✔️ when you bite into the pancake, you can taste the grains; which is an interesting texture and gives the vibes of health 🍃

✔️ i think everything was just very well-balanced; the mascarpone cheese was light and fluffy which went well with the warm, chewy pancakes & the cold fragrant ice cream. the hojicha jelly then gave it that QQ texture which really felt like a deconstructed tiramisu coming together.

i got the ethiopia aricha (gediyo-yirgacheffe grade 1)

✔️ #1 it's a whole experience because they bring it over and pour the hot water over in front of you which is so healing...

✔️ you can let it drip for 2 minutes before drinking it after!

✔️ super well-balanced, not overly sour — but you can really taste the cocoa tones which i LOVED and it went so well with the pancakes honestly; by washing out the sweetness to reveal the fragrance and flavour beneath 👀

i think kyushu pancake is really worth a try before they end their operations at junction 8; the pancakes were super satisfying but we didn't feel stuffed or anything afterwards because of how it was prepared and well-balanced with the jelly and ice cream. when enjoyed together with the coffee, it was a great brunch or after-meal dessert to have.
