Bar food that is actually worth your money💸

I finally got to try this famous hole-in-the-wall bar: Mama Diam! The concept of speakeasies have always attracted me so I was already going to give it a try, but what really intrigued me is how I heard that this place actually serves really good food?? So is it true?

Short answer: YES! They definitely live up to that reputation🥹

⭐️: 8.5/10

To start off, I really loved the nostalgic feeling that I got by just stepping into the place! They did a really great job in integrating that childhood memory vibes into their decor, tableware, and I especially loved the small tidbits that they have here and there,, all the while still keeping the fun, bar vibe alive🥹. The menu was also super creative, where they incorporated local flavours into almost everything in the menu, with some of them playing a nice twist on classic local dishes, while others are sort of elevated by incorporating some western-Asian fusion.

Food🍜:

-The chili (soft shell) crab baos is a really good bar bites option, or could also be a really good side as it is quite filling with generous portions!

-The cold truffle mien is a popular menu available at many restaurants these days, but I think Mama Diam executed it quite well! And for $25, I do think it’s one of the more worth it ones as other places tend to charge more for them🤔

-The Lor Ark Ramen was decent, the soup was good but I thought the braised duck leg was a bit bland and dry🥲 still quite enjoyed it tho and I do think it’s still worth the $20 bcs u get a LOT of duck meat🙃

Drinks🍸:

-Sng Muay Fizz: loved it! Refreshing and not too strong, good for your first drink or if you like sour plum.

-Golden Joy: good if you like Prosecco like me🤪, combined with light and yummy calamansi mixed with a little bit of whiskey that isn’t too overwhelming - which I liked.

-Liang Teh: loved the execution, but personally not a big fan of the strong medicinal tea flavour. bf loved it!

-Peranakan Negroni: best Negroni I’ve ever had!! Not a huge fan of Campari but the bartender recommended it to me and it was great 🥹 the cocktail was balanced really well and I ended up enjoying it a lot.

Overall, I really loved the place. Was sitting on the bar seats too and the bartenders were lovely and were always eager to hold a conversation with you to explain their menus, or js alcohol in general LOL. Would definitely come back!
