Tuscany is quintessential Italy. This central region has a distinct culture and flavor all its own, and is world famous for rolling green hills, world class wines, medieval hilltop towns, and delicious cuisine.

Here are my 7 favorite towns to visit in beautiful Toscana, how to get there, and what to do:

1. Florence (Fly or take speed train from Rome)- Accademia Gallery, Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Piazzale Michelangelo at Sunset, La Giostra for dinner, Leather Market, Piazza Santo Spirito

2. Lucca (Take 75 min train from Florence) - Bike the16th century walls

3. San Miniato (40 min train then 15 min bus from Florence) - Eat truffle!

4. San Gimignano (60 min train then 20 min bus from Florence) - Wine at Divinorum

5. Siena (90 min train from Florence) - Piazza del Campo, Rick Steves audio tour, explore the different districts/contrade, La Locanda dei Tintori)

6. Cortona (70 min train from Florence, then 10 min bus ride up hill into town) - Allessandra Federici cooking class, Ristorante La Loggetta)
