Italian food lovers: add Bologna to your bucket list NOW! 🍝
Bologna is known as the culinary capital of Italy. Just a 30 minute train ride from Florence, this city is situated in the heart of the Emilia-Romagna region, which is the producer of some of Italy's more renowned food and wine products. 🇮🇹
Here is a non-exhaustive list of all the eats and drinks you MUST try when in this foodie paradise:
1. Tagliatelle al ragu - known to the rest of the world simple as "bolognese," this meaty pasta dish is the signature of the region.
2. Tortellini - tiny meat and cheese filled pasta, served in broth or in cream sauce.
3. Lambrusco - a light sparkling red wine.
4. Mortadella - melt-in-your-mouth meat that's way better than baloney.
5. Tigelle - a little handheld sandwich often filled with mortadella.
6. Cotoletta alla bolognese - an indulgent chicken main similar to cordon bleu.
7. Pignoletto - a sparkling wine that is a slightly-lighter cousin of prosecco.
8. Gelato - truly a must in ALL of Italy, but my favorite gelaterias are here!
9. Proscuitto - Italy's favorite and more decadent cured ham.
10. Balsamic Vinegar - be sure to try some from Modena labeled "DOP."
11. Lasagne - A wholesome classic with a hearty ragu.
12. Tortelloni - The larger version of tortellini! Often served in a simpler butter sage sauce.
