the BEST introduction to beautiful Japan 🇯🇵

There is so much of this country to explore, from buzzy neon-lit streets to quiet countryside towns, and the pristine train system makes it incredibly easy to get around. For first-time visitors, this 8-day itinerary takes you to the highlights:

👉Tokyo (4 days): Japan's (and the world’s) largest city is really like a collection of smaller cities: Shinjuku City, Shibuya City, Harajuku, Shimokitazawa, and Nakameguro were my favorite ones to explore. There is ALWAYS something to do in Tokyo!

👉 Kyoto (2.5 days): take the 2.5 hour bullet train to Kyoto, often referenced as the cultural capital of Japan. This tourist-friendly city is full of shrines, temples, and pleasant traditional architecture. This is also where you can see geisha!

👉 Osaka (1.5 days): Japan’s 2nd largest city is just a 1 hour slow train away from Kyoto, and is known as a top foodie destination. With a more laid back, convivial feel than Tokyo, this is a great place to embrace the local culture by eating (and drinking) with reckless abandon.

If you have an extra (clear!) day, I highly recommend taking a day trip from Tokyo towards the small town on Lake Kawaguchi to see the impressive and gloriously symmetrical Mount Fuji.
