ULTIMATE IRELAND ROAD TRIP ITINERARY

A road trip along Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way is truly worthy of any bucket list. Though the Emerald Isle may be small, you certainly won't run out of beautiful scenery to admire and charming villages to explore.

Here is an ideal 1-week itinerary that gives you a glimpse of some of the country's most famous sights, but also takes you off the beaten path to some of its hidden treasures. We took this trip in a campervan - which I highly recommend doing - which means the only hotels we stayed in were in Dublin, though you could just as easily modify this for a traditional road trip as well.

Days 1-2: Dublin, Ireland's capital, is a great place to start your trip. Don't miss: pubs, Temple Bar, Trinity College, and Guinness Storehouse

Day 3: Drive a few short hours to the west coast and stop at Doolin, a colorful town known for its traditional Irish music. This afternoon or tomorrow morning, hike from Doolin to the Cliffs of Moher. It is about 5 miles each way and relatively flat, but be sure to give yourself enough time to return before sundown! Alternatively, you can take a short drive to the main cliff viewing site or hike the next morning instead.

Day 4: Drive to Galway and spend the afternoon on Shop Street before ending your night inRoundstone.

Day 5: Visit the clear waters and white sand beach at Dog's Bay before continuing to the pleasant town of Clifden. Stop by Cleggan Cliffs before taking a sunset drive around Killary Fjord. End the night in Doolough Pass.

Day 6 Don't miss idyllic Achill Island, which has one of the most beautiful yet least visited beaches in the world: Keem Bay. Then continue north to catch the sunset at the otherworldly landscape of Downpatrick Head.

Day 7: BACK TO DUBLIN!
