Well, if you want beauty and old-world glam this is your spot! I had always wanted to go to Paris and we finally did. So naturally on our list was a day trip to Versailles. I am incredibly glad we went but I did learn a few things along the way. So here are my tips for the best Versailles experience!
Versailles is iconic, the history, the palace, the gardens, the art, etc. Expect a million people to be there every day. The lines are long and that's even for the pre-booked tickets. Once you are inside the palace it can be a little crowded. So how do you avoid all that? There are 2 ways. I suggest buying your tickets for a weekday and opting for the first entrance in the morning, there will be half as many people and you might luck out having most of the rooms empty if you are the first group to enter the palace. Another way is to stay at the palace, YES! They have a hotel as part of the old palace wing. it is pricy ($2,000) So we did not do this option but I love that they offer it. Included in your stay they offer you a private after-hours tour of the palace which I can only imagine is absolutely amazing!
The gardens are full of delight and wonder. They even have certain days when the fountains are on and there is music in the gardens. I think this adds to the experience a little bit more. We went on one of those days and it was lovely. I also noticed the gardens are less crowded since there is more space overall. You can just book your ticket for the gardens only if you would rather skip the lines and people in the palace itself.
There is also a small museum. It's not exactly small but it is still within the palace itself. The art is beyond beautiful and I would definitely say to take a peak in the gallery halls before the end of your visit.
Overall, I highly recommend visiting both the palace and the gardens! bring your cute walking shoes as it is a much bigger estate than one might think. I think we walked the entire 4 hours!
