5 Books for Spooky Season 👻

📚1. The Haunting at Ashburn House by Darcy Coates

This book was CREEP-TASTIC! The perfect October read with all of the haunted house vibes. It does get a bit gorey (it’s not over the top) but if that bugs you- heads up. Other than gore, there aren’t any trauma/ abuse triggers in This one, which is a big win for me. This is just a good old creepy fun haunted house read that i didn’t have to walk away from feeling emotionally traumatized.

📚2. The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse

Elin, a detective on hiatus, is invited by her brother and his fiancé to celebrate thier engagement in a sanitorium turned Hotel in the Swiss alps.

The scenery is beautiful but the location itself definitely feels off. When a storm rolls in preventing anyone from leaving, they wake up to find Laure, Elin’s brothers fiancé missing and the spooky gets amped up really quickly.

📚3. Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney

The Darker’s are a broken family full of damaged people and sinister secrets. It’s the night before Halloween and Nana’s 80th birthday. They all gather together for an overnight celebration at Seaglass, Nana’s coastal estate that is barricaded from escape each evening during high tide. It is the first time in years they are all under one roof together, but as the night commences it becomes immediately clear that long hidden secrets will be unearthed and no one will be surviving the night.

📚4. Just Like The Other Girls by Claire Douglas

Una Richardson is reeling after the death of her mother when she comes across an advertisement for a ladies companion to Elspeth, a weathly old woman secluded away in a big house. The job seems like the perfect opportunity for Una, but soon after accepting the position she begins to realize that the big house is not the sanctuary she thought it would be.

She learns that there were two girls before her and both have died mysteriously but no one will talk about them.

This book was so spooky and so much fun to read. I had absolutely no idea how it would end and when the ending arrived- I did not see it coming.

📚5. Winter People by Jennifer McMahon

I’m not always a fan of jumping back and forth in time, but this author did it seamlessly. The timing and flow were perfection and the story was unique.

The ending had me gasping and frantically flipping the pages for more.

If you are looking for a supernatural / psychological thriller with just enough spooky to keep you up all night reading… the winter people is it.
