***EDIT. Im excited to say that I’ll be turning this post into a 10pt series breaking down each step in more detail with ideas, instructions, and more, stay tuned💛💛***
And you don’t have to wear a smocked prairie dress to do it, either 🫣
Here are some ways I “homestead” in my rent house in the middle of town:
1. Make pantry staples from scratch
Vanilla, brown sugar, and chocolate syrup are all from scratch staples that take less than 3 minutes to make.
2. Cook simply
Not every meal you make has to be Pinterest perfect. Stick to the basics; protein, vegetable, and a carb.
3. Eat in-season produce
Practice now eating with the seasons. Foods are tastier, cheaper, and easier to source.
4. Make my own bread products
Sandwich bread, tortillas, and muffins are all on the weekly menu here in my house. Learning how to make these ✨now✨ will help me not feel so overwhelmed with all sorts of homesteading chores later when I have the opportunity to have land.
5. Learn to preserve food
Canning, picking, and ferment your food now- it’s good practice for an over-abundant garden later 😋
6. Make foods last in my fridge
Keep herbs and produce fresher for longer.
7. Make make own cleaning products
Vinegar and baking soda goes a long way.
8. Grow my own herbs
Maybe propagating herbs in October is a bad idea… there’s only one way to find out!
9. Get comfortable outside
Spend your days in nature🌷
10. Enjoy what I have
A land solution won’t fix a discontent heart. Thank the Lord for what He has given you now, and prepare your heart and home for the next season
