A beginner’s guide to cleaning a bedroom! I know some people may not know where to begin with cleaning or may want some product ideas, so I wanted to share my routine with you all! Note: these products are not “clean” or “natural” cleaning products so adjust and tweak according to your needs:

1. Dust Surfaces

-It’s always a good idea to start with dusting surfaces. You can use a feather duster, a Swiffer duster, etc. for this step. I use a Swiffer duster with an adjustable and changeable head. You want to start with high surfaces first and work your way down to lower ones. For instance, dust your ceiling fan before you dust your nightstands. This keeps dust from accumulating on lower surfaces after they’ve already been dusted. You’ll want to dust dressers, decorations, fans, blinds, window sills, etc.

2. Polish Wood Furniture

-If you have any wood furniture in your room, you can clean these up nicely with some polish. I use Orange Glow’s 2-in-1 polish and cleaner. You’ll want to use a cloth to wipe the polish and will want to dedicate that cloth solely to polishing. Using one cloth to polish and then using it to wipe mirrors would not be a good idea. You can use this spray for the top of the furniture, doors, handles, and sides.

3. Clean Windows/Mirrors

-Windex is most people’s go-to for this step but I was put on to Sprayway’s foaming glass cleaner and love it. I spray this on my windows and mirrors and use a cloth to wipe it up. It works great and also leaves glass smelling fresh.

4. Dust Mop Floors

-Now that you’ve hopefully knocked all your dust onto your floor, you’ll want to use a dust mop to clean it up. Of course, this step is only for people with hard surfaces in their rooms. Go around your floor with the dust mop and create small piles of dirt in different areas so you don’t have to push the dirt across the room to one pile. You can use a dust bin to clean the dirt piles up, but I choose to use a handheld vacuum.

5. Vacuum Carpet/Rugs

-If you have carpet in your room you can skip right to this step and use the vacuum of your choice to clean your floors. In my case, I just have rugs, so I use a handheld vacuum to clean those. I could use a full size vacuum, but smaller rugs aren’t the easiest to clean with a bulky vacuum.

6. Mop Floors

-Again, ignore this step if you have carpet. If you have hard floors, you’re going to want to mop. I use an O-Cedar mop, which is the mop with the circular head that comes with a bucket and wringer. I start off by putting some Fabuloso in the bucket. I just eyeball how much I add in, but it doesn’t need to be a lot. I then add hot water from the sink to the max fill line. I dip my mop in the bucket and then wring it out by stepping on the wringer pedal 6 times. You want your mop head to be wet but not dripping. It’s become a trend to soak your floors with massive amounts of water, but this can cause floors to warp, mold to grow, etc. if not dried properly or if it gets between your floorboards.

7. Add Finishing Touches

-Now that everything is fresh and clean you can add finishing touches! I bought some fall-winter themed bedsheets from Amazon that I wanted to put on the bed to get into the season, so I changed the sheets. You can decorate, use air freshener or incense, etc. to top of your newly cleaned bedroom!

I hope this guide helps!
