I’ve struggled with my relationship with food ever since I was a little girl. I remember when I was 14, I took my dad’s credit card to purchase diet pills off of ebay because I was so insecure about my body, and my diet. Social media and magazines really took a toll on my self image and my relationship with food!

I’ve learned that my favorite food is PIZZA. You got your carbs, fruit (tomato sauce) and protein from all the gooey cheese! (Pizza in pic from) De La Nonna

Food is important and is a fuel for our beautiful bodies! It takes time to build a healthy relationship with food, I know this because I’m still working on mine!

But here a few healthy food habits that have changed my life for the better 

* Eat whatever you want to eat - in moderation.

Where is the joy in life when you completely restrict yourself from all the amazing things in this world? It’s important to eat a healthy and balanced diet BUT it’s also important to include some of your favorite foods that are “bad for you”. EAT THAT CAKE Sis! I LOVE cake, I can finish a lot of it by myself (a BIG ASS SLICE), but I also know that it does not nourish my body and fuel me the way I need it to. So, instead of eating a big slice of cake, I will have a smaller slice in addition to whatever else I’m eating. Eating in moderation and seeing food as fuel instead of “good or bad” has helped me maintain a healthy relationship with food.

* Learn new HEALTHY recipes!

I am a HUGE FAN of dessert, I love indulging in something sweet after a nice savory meal. I’ve taken the time to research recipes either on tiktok or youtube on healthy desserts. My current Hyperfixation dessert is frozen greek yogurt fruit bars. These have no added sugar, loaded with fruits, homemade granola and my favorite Oiko triple 0 greek yogurt. This is just one of my many favorite healthy snacks. It helps me with my sweet tooth cravings, if you are working on your fitness and cutting calories THIS IS FOR YOU. It helps with my sweet tooth cravings while keeping the calories low! Who said we could not  have yummy desserts that aren’t high in calories?

* Food is our FUEL

Yes! Food is our fuel and we need it to nourish our beautiful bodies to be able to fully function with our everyday tasks. Food is not something we should be afraid of, it is one thing that we need to survive. Different foods give us different nutritional benefits to fight off any diseases, strengthen our immune system and lower blood pressure. One of my favorite ways to fuel myself is eating Bruschetta - Got my carbs, healthy fats, and getting in my Vit C. I used to be so scared of carbs, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve noticed that carbs help fuel my body for the gym. If I’m hitting legs the next day I make sure to load up on my carbs so I can hit my PRs!
