Easy DIY whitewashing tutorial

Whitewashing is a simple, beginner-friendly DIY!

1️⃣ start by sanding the original finish as much as possible. I couldn’t sand too much here for fear of sanding through the top veneer- an issue you can run into with plywood. If you’re working with a solid wood piece, this isn’t a problem.

2️⃣ add some paint and water. I don’t worry too much about how it looks at this point, I just mix the paint and water on the piece as I’m working. I try to even it out as much as I can and I pay attention to how long it’s on the piece. You don’t want to let it dry on the piece, but if you let it set for a few minutes, the wood has more time to absorb more color.

3️⃣ wipe it off. You can add more paint/water in any spots that aren’t as saturated as you’d like. If you have areas that are lighter than you want, you can try adding some water to a clean rag and wiping that area to take any excess paint off.
