reno for under $40k (incl furnitures)? ✨

it is really unfortunate that we only had that much for our home renovation but honestly, furniture and fittings is truly what makes it nice, as well as day to day maintenance.

𝘦.𝘨 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳-𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦 & 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘯

1️⃣ 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐃

with our limited budget, getting an ID was out of the picture. we already knew what we wanted in mind, so we expressed our idea directly to our carpenter for him to fabricate everything. we are very thankful to find a carpenter who is not a 木头 as he was able to give professional advise on certain things that we should avoid doing so we won’t have any reno regrets such as hard-to-reach corner in the kitchen.

2⃣️ 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹

we only did carpentry in our MBR & kitchen which costed us about <$15K? like many others, i really wanted a beautifully renovated house but clearly we are a broke a$$ bij that can’t afford lol. so we focused on doing what we NEED on a day to day basis, which is a fully functional wardrobe & kitchen.

for sanitary items like toilet fittings, we bought it “off the shelves” from the streets of jalan besar. there are many many toilet shops there which you can bargain and we only spent less than <$3k! we got all the essential items such as:

2x toilet bowl

2x sink / sink cabinet

2x rain shower head

1x storage heater

2x mirror / mirror cabinet

2x tap

not bad huhhhhh! the toilet fittings are of stainless steel material that looks like wood so it wouldn’t rot from the humidity in the toilet.

3⃣️ 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆𝗺𝗮𝗻 / 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹

the sanitary shops usually offers you their “in-house” plumber but they are lying for real. it’s actly outsourced most of the time and it’s like $80/ fitting or smth which is super ex la. go away lor. we found our handyman / plumber / electrician contact through carousell (or tiktok!) at a much cheaper rate. but be sure to check reviews on their works esp for electrician! make sure the electrician is an actual certified electrician who knows their work if not ltr ur house on fiyahhhh ok 🫠

4⃣️ 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 ‘𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲’ 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲

obviously with such a limited budget, we left a lot of things undone such as leaving our 2 room empty, went without a tv console for a year etc. honestly, there is no laws or rules that a renovation have to be completed in one shot… if you dont have the budget, don’t push it, don’t make yourself get into unnecessary debts.

my husband and i are rarely home since we are working from office. we rarely watch tv so it doesn’t matter if we had a tv or tv console or not. it is important that you focus on what you need everyday instead.

we are still in the midst of slowly completing our home and that’s really ok. its feels rewarding every time we have a new furnishing as though we reach a new milestone. how much you spend on renovation is not a competition… it’s how comfortable you feel at the end of the day.

5⃣️ 𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 / 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲

we purchased our electronics/ appliances/ bed/ bedframe from megastores or warehouse sale such as

• The Mattress Boutique

• Audio House

• Mustafa

etc etc.

Honestly Mustafa electronics section is pretty solid ok!! We bought our washing machine there at S$555 only and their delivery is only an additional S$40 which includes weekend delivery + disposal (if needed).
