💡💡💡 DIY Limewash wall💡💡💡

Yes! We did our first DIY in our house! It may not have the best result but we absolutely love it! This is 1 hour after our 2nd coat, but after it completely dries and with sunlight, it looks stunning 🤩

Disclaimer - we thought it looks decent enough given our budget. We learned this from some angmoh YouTuber but we adapt with what we have.

Why⁉️

- Our ID quoted us $800-ish for limewash on this piece of wall. Standard market rate outside. 💸 we are not intending to spend 💲on things that are not a necessity.

- We thought it’s cool to have an area that’s diy by ourselves. Many have done it but even more hasn’t. Where else but our MBR for this piece of “art” 🖼️

- Good bonding with your partner 👫, with satisfaction at the end of the day! Definitely comes with tiredness and sore. 😆

How much ✅

Virtually freeeeeee! We used the sample 1L paint for our house. ROFL! 🤣 We still have half can each, so 1L for one piece of wall will suffice.

🕰️Time spent:

Preparation: 0.5 hour thereabouts

1st coat: 1.5 hours

Wait: 2 hours

2nd coat: 1 hour

Steps ✅

1. Separate the paint tray in the middle with tape. Feel free to explore other ways.

2. Pour one paint color on each side of the tray. Maintain it that way (duhh) when you top up.

3. Dip the brush in a small container of water💧, just a little, not dripping.

4. Dip the brush in the middle of the tray, dipping on both colors.

5. Start drawing X’es on your wall and just continue doing it. I don’t always dip my brush in water each time I dip in the paint. The purpose of water is to allow you to smoothen you strokes, which it helps. So when it starts to feel rough when you are painting, repeat step 3.

6. The corners and sides can just cover it with one color paint it’s fine. As it’s only a small border like area, it’s not obvious.

7. Wait 1.5-2 hours for the first coat to dry 🕰️ Depending on the ventilation of your room.

8. Coat a second time.

9. Eyeball 👀 areas that need touch up. Well.. touch it up.

10. Voila! It’s done. 😊😍

What do you need ✅

1. Paint brush - ideally supposed to use what they call block brush. Those fat thick brush. Saw some selling online for $50+. In our case, we used normal brush, just a bit wider, 2.5” if I recall. It works fairly well too, just maybe not as beautiful and more strokes require. 🤷🏻‍♂️

2. Painter’s/masking tape - to tape wherever items/sides and corner you don’t want the paint to touch. AND to split the 2 paint colors apart ‼️

3. Painting tray or a wide and low container. You need a wide one as you need to pour both paint colors in it.

4. Container for a small amount of water.

5. Ladder - duhh unless you are 🦒 or 🐘

6. Some water

7. Two paint colors, ideally under the same shade of color. Mine would be soft flutter & birch patina.

8. Screwdriver, or keys in our case as we forgot. This is used to open the paint can. Don’t be hero and break your nails. Save your strength. 😆

9. Plastic sheets to cover your floor. OR the old school way, newspaper 🗞️was gonna say environmentally friendly, but we are talking painting. Lol

‼️As always, some TIPS: ✨✨

- Do some stretching first.. it would help

- Don’t be afraid to make a mess. The beauty of limewash effect lies in the mess. Of course not saying you can do vertical, horizontal and crosses on same wall.

- It may look weird on camera or after 1st coat. But it will look so much better after 2nd coating.

💭🤔 Overall, we are very satisfied with our workmanship. One thing for sure is that we can proudly tell guests that we done this ourselves. But another thing for sure is we are so tired. 👍🏻👍🏻
