The best thing to do after eating food is to move your body. This will help move those nutrients along to be utilized towards fuel. I usually choose to go on a 20-30 minute walk or do some digestive yoga.

Digestive yoga is a nice exercise because it is easy on the body and there is a lot of variety with the movements you can do. Yoga can be beneficial for digestion because certain movements can help massage and stimulate your digestive organs.

I find doing a 20-30 minute yoga session makes a massive difference for bloating and for keeping bowel movements regular. One key tip- remembering to mindfully breathe during these movements is necessary. The deep belly breathing will help massage your organs and help your body go into rest and digest. Here are a few of my favorite movements and why:

1. Forward fold. Growing up playing soccer and lifting weights, my hamstrings have always struggled with being extremely tight. This movement is beneficial because not only does it challenge me to stretch my hamstrings, but it also puts the perfect amount of gentle pressure on your stomach to help with digestion.

2. Cobra. This pose is great because it’s beginner friendly. Lay flat on the ground, then begin raising your chest up with your arms until you find a position with a comfortable amount of stretch and pressure in your stomach.

3. Extended puppy. If you are struggling with gas and bloat, then this pose is your best friend. It does wonders.

4. Upward facing. This is another great one for bloat and gas. It will work your abs a bit too, which is always an added bonus. Keep your back flat on the ground and core stable.

Try them out after your next meal! Let me know which ones you enjoy!
