tips for your vacation photos this summer 🌞🌊

taking vacation photos can be such a hassle! usually your mom is taking them, you’re trying to fit them in between activities, and it’s HOT out! looking glamorous on vacation can be tough, especially if you’re actually trying to enjoyyyy your vacation!

here are some tips to help make the process a bit more enjoyable and easy:

🌞 use the sun to your advantage

lighting is the absolute key to taking a good photo! essentially you want to find lighting that is flattering and doesn’t overexpose the photograph.

to do this, try to shoot when the sun is NOT at the very top of the sky. shoot earlier in the morning or after it reaches it’s apex.

sometimes this is unavoidable though! like in the photos i took here, the sun was directly overhead. what i did to mitigate this, was turn my face towards the sun and close my eyes (yep the eyes closed thing is not just a cute pose, but also for when the sun is in your eyes). you can also wear sunglasses or shade your face with your hand!

🌞 color grade in post

when you’re on vacation, and you want to enjoy everything, it’s best to take the photo while you can and worry about the colors and the lighting in post. you don’t want to spend hours of your vacation planning your activities around the time of day waiting for the light to be perfect. soooo I suggest using lightroom and just touching up the photos later so that they look better!! I can make a tutorial on this if anybody would want one!

🌞 find new angles

do some exploring and try some new angles! every location you go is going to have its own unique spots and attributes, so I think playing into it strengths and finding new and creative ways to take photos is such a fun part of the journey!

🌞 take filler photos

vacation is a great time to take some filler photos for your feed! Just take a photo of your seashells, or the food you’re eating, or anything that stands out it is interesting to you!

🌞 use the sunset if you can

everything looks better at sunset, so if you get the chance to take one of those stunning vacation sunset photos definitely do it!

🌞 be present

don’t think too hard about it! The most important thing to do is to make sure you’re actually enjoying the time spent on your vacation rather than worrying about the photos! I’ll take the pictures as needed but make sure to also put the camera down and enjoy the moment 💗💗
