The church was under construction 🚧 but it was also breathtaking to see and visit. It's free to go inside and see the church, but if you want to see parts closed off to the public, you can book a group tour to get a tour guide or even explore the Cathedral yourself outside of mass time.

The Cathedral Church is Europe's second-tallest church and the world's third-tallest church.

They started to build on August 15, 1248. The Cathedral has a Gothic style with 10,000 square meters of windows. Some 300,000 tonnes of stones were used in its construction. Cologne Cathedral is known for its long drawn-out origins and extended period of construction, its building history, which began with the Three Wise Men and ended only in 1880 with its completion, as well as for many important works of art that you can see in the Cathedral and the Cathedral Treasure Chamber.

There were plenty of places to park

After seeing the church you can visit the park, the rivers, shops and restaurants. We spent hours there walking around.
