We spend more time at a full time job than anywhere else. If we want a happy life, we need to be content at work. Here are 8 suggestions of how to be happier at your job.

1. Find meaning. If work seems pointless, it becomes drudgery. Feeling a sense of accomplishment helps our brains stay involved. I like to focus on how I'm helping people with the service I provide. Work shouldn't feel like a waste of time.

2. Be present. Studies have shown that people who live in the moment are happier in general. Try not to ruminate over something that happened in the past or worry about what's coming in the future. Being present is more productive and improves your mood. This is something that helps me stay mentally healthy in life too!

3. Celebrate. It is important to celebrate small victories. Take the time to pat yourself on the back regularly. It gives you the impetus to achieve bigger goals. I always look for ways to celebrate. It's fun!

4. Be grateful. Practicing gratitude is another important way to feel good at work. Find at least three things a day to be thankful for. Personally, it helps me to write these in a journal.

5. Take small breaks. It's tempting to plow through your day in an attempt to maximize productivity. But taking small breaks refreshes you. Coming back to a project with a new perspective can often lead to a creative solution. I always remind myself of this one. Honestly, it saves time in the long run and improves productivity.

6. Build relationships. Research has shown that people who like their coworkers enjoy work more. If you get to know people at work, you'll like your job more and you'll be a more effective collaborator. I have made lifelong friends with some of my colleagues.

7. Be positive. Having a sunny outlook will help with every aspect of your job. Look for silver linings and you'll find them. This one has gotten me through some really tough times.

8. Diversify. Try to switch up your responsibilities. A bit of novelty in your day can do wonders. I find this one helps with productivity too. It can keep your brain fresh and stimulate more energy to switch it up a bit.
