Add this magical town to your CA bucketlist

Why I love it: Solvang transports you to a European fairytale town. It’s really cute and colorful. You can grab so many delicious pastries.

What to do:

Hans Christian Andersen Museum and Bookstore: This is the author behind the Little Mermaid. He wrote a lot of books! Check out his work and the bookstore.

Shop: You can find shops full of antiques, clocks, and other fun items. I think the Christmas store stood out the most to me.

Windmills: The town has huge windmills scattered around. Walk around and find them!

What to eat:

Olsen's Danish Village Bakery : Really popular bakery with a lot of Danish goods and coffee. You can expect a line here.

Copenhagen Sausage Garden : Try sausages with so many different sauce options. I liked the Curry Ketchup sauce. Don’t forget to try a beer!

Solvang Restaurant : I ordered at the outdoor stall, getting Arne’s famous aebleskiver.

Tips: I didn’t book a hotel or airbnb the times I visited Solvang. I stayed in nearby cities and came to visit. However, you can get a lot done in one day.

Make sure to come early to avoid crowds and get more things done. Plus, the stores don’t stay open late.

Wear layers. It might be chilly in the morning and then hot in the afternoon. Be prepared for temperature changes.

Put on comfortable shoes. With so many things to see, you’re going to walk a lot.

Come hungry, but don’t order too much in one place. You’re going to want to try a bunch of spots. Get a little of something from each one! Have fun!
