why i regret retaking A levels

Hello! i want to share my perspective of retaking a levels as someone who has done it. Most of the post i see on lemon8 about retaking is positive and motivating, my take on it is pretty different.

*i personally DISCOURAGE retaking a levels*

Back in JC, i was very distracted ( had boyfriends LOL don’t do it 🚫🚫🚫 )

plus i put in minimal effort in JC and was extremely lazy.

No miracles happened I DID REALLY BADLY 😬 (as expected)

Tbh, when i first got my results i was q happy bc i got 0rp my entire JC career. However, i soon realised i qualified for barely any courses in local uni. ( >60rp )

My JC teachers told me to NOT RETAKE A’s as my results wouldn’t be too different.

I only applied to NUS ( i was set on gg overseas for uni ) and no surprise i was REJECTED. Though i had a place in a university in europe, i decided not to go in the end.

I signed up for A levels retake on the last day of their deadline which was only a few months away from A levels that year.

Unsurprisingly, i was still lazy and ended up flunking again. Though i did get a better score in my second round of A’s by 5rp ✌️.

I genuinely feel like i wasted a whole year , seeing my school mates move on in uni while i wasted my days at home. The 5rp change was not worth the one year i wasted.

This is the case for majority of A level retakers. OBVIOUSLY there are ppl who make significant improvements in their retake year but this is only the minority.

The reason for that is because we r no longer in school and there is no one to watch us like our JC teachers… AND if you are like me, retaking A lvls for the sake of retaking… its gg to be ever harder. Furthermore, retakers are usually do not have company and thus it gets lonely and depressing, making it even harder to find motivation to do well.

I wish i could say “JUST PUT IN THE EFFORT U WILL DO WELL” but as someone who experienced this first hand it really is quite tough mentally.

To all those taking Alvls this yr, i hope this serves as a warning to START STUDYING NOW. It is still early and there is enough time to make a significant improvement.
