Besides reading, crochet is one of my favorite hobbies. When starting off, it can be confusing on what you do and don’t need. Here are my favorite and most used items for when I crochet.

🧶 compression gloves: it might look ridiculous and to be honest, it does make me feel like I’ve aged 50 years when I wear them to crochet. However, sometimes they’re so helpful to have. Whether is a large project or a more complicated stitch, it helps to wear these so that I can crochet for longer. It’s still important to take breaks and listen to your body, but these are a lifesaver.

🧶 tension rings: when I started crocheting several years ago, these either weren’t around or weren’t popular. I learned how to crochet without them but they’re so helpful that when I don’t have them, I have to almost relearn how to crochet without them.

🧶 Tunisian crochet hooks: the Tunisian stitch has quickly become one of my favorite stitches. Some patterns allow you to do the Tunisian stitch with a regular hook, but for the most part, the Tunisian hooks are better and even necessary. Plus, who doesn’t love a good carrying case to go with it?

🧶 rubber handle hooks: one of my biggest looming in progress projects is a blanket for my husband using that really soft chenille yarn. When I started it (four years ago😬) I needed a larger hook. This is when I first used the hooks with rubber handles and have never looked back. If you are just starting out, rubber handle hooks are the way to go and this set from Amazon comes in several different sizes.

🧶 yarn bucket: no one likes when their ball of yarn becomes a tangled mess. And of course, there are other items to fix that problem. But this one is the best option I’ve found when you have small kids. Yes, the lid does open pretty easily, but it’s not left out in the open for them to grab and play with.

What are your must have crochet items? Do you use any of the items on my list? And of course, if you want links to any of them, let me know!
