Affordable Italian Food in Town. SO YUMMY TOO 🍝

Previously known as Lino, Picolino is part of the Les Amis group, featuring amazing restaurants such as Peperoni Pizzeria, Koal and the Michelin starred Les Amis restaurant. Picolino 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒔𝒑𝒂𝒈𝒉𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒊𝒛𝒛𝒂𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑶𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑹𝒐𝒂𝒅!

For the sides, we got their 𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐫𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐚 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐩. The sweet potato fries were naturally sweet with a crispy crust and the sriracha honey dip was a nice sweet-tangy complement. We also got their 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐤𝐚-𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐭 after seeing almost every table order one. One bite was all it took to understand why. We bit through the 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗳𝘂! The soft squid is proof of the freshness of the squid, a rarity in Singapore where squid is normally tough and chewy. The outer crust was no slouch either, offering 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁.

For the mains, we had the 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐜 & 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐬𝐞 which was satisfyingly cheesy, al dente macaroni, savoury bacon bits and the most fragrant truffle. I would’ve liked it if they were more generous with the cheeses and bechamel sauce. We also had the 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐚 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐮𝐜𝐞, 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥 𝐩𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚. While traditionally a fan of rose sauce and basil pesto, this combination of my favourite sauces at Picolino left much to be desired. The ricotta cheese inside the tortellini was neither fresh nor flavourful. I’d say give this one a miss. I also had the 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐀𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐨 𝐎𝐥𝐢𝐨 which came with the 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗱. It was also fried in fragrant olive oil, garlic and chillies. The 𝐋𝐚𝐤𝐬𝐚 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞 came with 𝟲 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗸𝘀𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗲. The flavours of the laksa was spot on and the coconut milk was super aromatic. Out of all the laksa spaghetti’s I’ve tried, this one was the best I’ve had.

Picolino is a good place for quality pasta at a convenient location. It remains one of the places I’d recommend if they’re looking for pasta in Orchard Road!
