Purple Sweet Potato dessert in Tokyo you must try🍠

A sweet potato speciality shop in the heart of Asakusa, they serve a 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗿è𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗲 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺. The google reviews was abysmally low (2.9!?!?) but the queues were insanely long so we didn’t quite get the reason for the discrepancy. We personally felt that the food was good but maybe Japanese people have higher standards for their sweet potato?

Anyway, the queuing process is a little complicated as well. You don’t go straight to the shop to order, you’ll have to go to a shop a few units down to queue up first. Upon reaching the end of the long queue, you make your order, pay, receive a coupon and then you may head over to the main shop for collection.

Having stuffed myself with street food earlier, I did not have the stomach to finish a whole crème brulee sweet potato by myself so I went with the sweet potato ice cream. The 𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 consisted of 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙤𝙢, 𝙩𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙘𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙙, 𝙖 𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖 𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙠𝙚, 𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙤 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤𝙥. While this sounds like there’s a lot going on in that tiny cup, everything melded so well together where all the components took me in a wonderful journey of different textures and flavours. Besides, the sweet potato has got to be one of the sweetest sweet potatoes I’ve had!

Don’t be fooled by the name, it isn’t sweet potato ice cream but sweet potato on ice cream. I loved how the shredded sweet potato came in really aesthetic purple strands.

In all, a good place for sweet potato desserts. While not necessarily deserving of a special trip down, it is definitely one of the street foods to consider if you’re in the area.
