Originating from Japan, Tempura Makino is a restaurant that specialises in serving a variety of tempura dishes.
We went to the Jewel restaurant one afternoon and got their lunch sets which came with miso soup and a side dish of the day.
🍤 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐭
This humongous bowl consists of Prawn (2pcs), Kisu Fish, Chicken Fillet, Maitake Mushroom, Eggplant, Butternut Pumpkin, French Bean and Egg served with Rice — the highlight of the meal is undoubtedly the kisu fish and tempura egg, where they nailed the runny yolk which explodes and envelopes everything in the bowl with a gentle stab of my chopstick, and the fish is incredibly flakey and nicely seasoned.

Featuring Marinated Salmon slices with Egg Tempura and crispy Tempura Crumbs on a bed of Japanese Rice.
I love how everything is prepared freshly upon order where the tempura batter is light and crispy, without being too greasy. I also highly recommend you to get the Egg Tempura! Do remember to request for their trio dipping power (curry/matcha/sweet potato) to complement your tempura which helps to prevent flavour fatigue. I was also pleasantly surprised at how the matcha and sweet potato flavours are extremely mild.
Overall, this is the place to go if you’re looking for wallet friendly and authentic tempura dishes in Singapore.
