so this has been on my mind for a very long time ever since my account gained abit more traction for my crochet works! but what has always held me back was that I wanted my own designs to be made by me, and me ONLY. Like I feel proud of my designs, so I feel the need to be the only person who knows how to make it. this sounds very selfish I know 😭 I only realised that its super unsustainable when I was working like a mad dog like 5 sets of mesh shrugs and 5 sets of leg warmers within my recess week break, I felt myself gg crazy and I feel like I lost the capacity to be creative, to dream and to create new designs. Anyways I went through a whole inner conversation with myself and here are some things I asked myself:

1. Am I a maker, or more of a designer?

so this one's important I feel! I really wish to indulge into my creative sides and invest more time in designing instead of making the same thing over and over again, in different sizes, to sell. It was fun at first, but it got pretty tiring both physically and mentally that I didn't have the capacity for anything else. With a team, you'll have more capacity to explore new techniques, patterns, special one-offs, prototype and many more while your small business is able to sustain! Even if the team is small, the profits you get from selling their makes should be able to cover most expenses while you unleash your potential πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ‘

2. Am I serious about this?

With a team, its an extra commitment. You'll have to plan ahead, schedule things, etc. You can't just stop one day and disappear if you get what I mean! You have to be on the ball and you can't just stop doing things. (at least professionally.) But you know, when you're doing this yourself, its easier to go on hiatus anytime you want. its more casual alone, and more professional with a team. Even if your team is made up of friends, there has to be a line drawn and ensure they don't cross the boundaries when it comes to your small business. Much more complex!

3. Am I okay with letting go, to grow bigger?

I mentioned my selfish worries at the beginning. Sometimes, you just have to trust people with your design that they will not steal, replicate, or do anything mean and hurtful to betray your small business! Let a team of them be experts of your design! while you have the time to create even better things!! In the end, they are helping you grow and be more in touch with your creative side πŸ’ If they love your work and wish to work for you Im sure they'll respect you and they deserve the same respect and trust, even though I've heard of many horror stories of betrayals from another small business based in Philippines.

And also another reason why I wanted to have a team is because I want to bring in more sizes for my designs. Right now, most of mine are made in my size since I am my own reference and I could never bring myself to grade sizes ( pattern making is tough 😭 ) so with a team, I'll be forced to do that so that my makers are able to make more sizes for me! 🫑

I definitely shared something abit more personal to yall but I hope this helps any one of you who is in a similar situation as me! ☝️
