understanding each other through national service

national service is a period that many of us dread. especially those in a relationship, the idea of not being able to see our loved ones just sounds terrible 😓

not gonna lie, when I first enlisted into the army and started by bmt, things were rough. my girlfriend couldn’t understand the strict regulations in the army, and on weekends there would be times when I was too tired to go out with her. our relationships slowly became rather toxic. and there were occasions when it felt like we had reached the tipping point.

but we chose to work on it because we love each other. so we sat down and talked about it, and thought of a solution to help us better communicate and understand each other during my NS journey.

She signed on with the army 😌💕

that completely changed our relationship. by signing to a 10 year contract with the army, she had to undergo the same training as I did, albeit with greater responsibilities and expectations given that she was a regular. now like that, we both could experience what it was like being not only in the army, but as a NSBF and NSGF as well. we can now share our little stories with each other during our dates, and bask in the experience of waiting for each other to book out from camp. 💕

golly, well there you have it. I know it’s tough for many of you there with partners in the army, but don’t give up!! I would highly recommend you all sign on so that you can really build empathy and understand what your partner is going through!! 🤭🤭
