This is standard policy in the majority of hotels but let me tell you why.

It’s just good manners. More than that, the identity of a person checking in can range from a young adult, to a VIP, or anyone being stalked for any reason. Whether or not you see anyone in the immediate vicinity, you should always assume somebody is listening. In all honesty, nobody knows the intentions of those who may be listening in. It’s always better to err on the side of caution.

So how do we get around this?

If you have a map or key jacket that you hand out on check-in, you circle the room in front of them and let them know the floor that their room is on.

If a guest asks you to say the room number out loud, you tell them the room number. First and foremost, you should prioritize a guest’s safety. However, once they ask the room number it’s out of your hands and you can go ahead and say it. I’ve had guests say the room number when I point to it before. At that point, the negligence isn’t on the part of the front desk agent, it’s on the part of the guest.

Thanks for reading yall!

Love y’all!
