Stress can feel like a constant companion, especially as a college student. However there is no reason to feel defeated and discouraged by stress, at least not continually.

Here are my top tips on dealing with stress:

💡Validate Your Feelings :

It’s okay to feel overwhelmed and stressed. It’s natural even because it shows that you care and want to do well. However it can become debilitating when it impacts your every day life. I recommend getting a journal and just dumping all your thoughts into them when you feel stressed. Getting it out of your system can be very helpful!! Much better than holding it or trying to deny your feelings.

💡Organize your assignments

Make a list ranked by due date and how long you think each will take you. Having a game plan helps you accomplish the high priority things first. Don’t spend time on things that are due next week when you have an essay due tomorrow night! It also helps you plan ahead for future too in knowing how much time to allow for each assignment.

💡Schedule Your Time

Make a timed schedule for how you are going to tackle the high priority assignments. Include breaks and class time for the day. Also plan in meal times and down time. But stick to the schedule!!

💡Don’t Neglect Physical Health

Move your body!! Go to gym, take a walk around campus, or go hiking but don’t forget to get some daily exercise in. It’s so essential that your body be able to burn off some of your stress through physical movement! You’d be amazed at how good you can feel after an 20 minute bike ride or walk.

💡Have a healthy diet

Try to limit sugar and caffeine intake especially when feeling stressed. Try to have a variety of colors in your diet of fresh veggies and fruit! You need the vitamins and other minerals they provide for clear thinking.

💡Sleep is Essential

No pulling all nighters. Seriously they are not good for your mental well being and they will not ultimately help you learn anything in the long term. Try to aim for 7-9 hours a night and have a sleep routine you go through before bed to allow your mind to relax and prepare for sleep.
