🚨🚨OMOTE wasn’t worth the money…😭💸

I recently visited Omote to see what all the hype was about, and they currently have three outlets at Thomson Plaza, Velocity, and Raffles City.

Before they opened the other two outlets, I would always see SUPER LONG queues at the Thomson Plaza branch. However, after trying their food, I felt that it didn't quite live up to the expectations 😭😭

Here's what we ordered and my thoughts on each dish:

1. 𝐔𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐙𝐄𝐃 𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐈 🐠 ($22.80): The marinade of the chirashi was actually quite enjoyable, with a nice balance of sweetness and saltiness 🫶🏼. BUT I was a bit disappointed with the proportion of squid and cuttlefish in the dish. It seemed like about 65% of the bowl consisted of squid, and I was hoping for more salmon and tuna. The proportioning could have been better, as I've been to other places with more generous servings of salmon and tuna 🍣

2. 𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐃 𝐔𝐍𝐀𝐆𝐈 𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐈 🍣($25.80): Similar to the chirashi, I had similar comments about the unagi dish. There were only four slices of unagi, which is understandable since eel is not cheap 😫. The unagi was fatty and had a good marinade, but each slice was quite thin and surprisingly cold 🥶 .IS THIS NORMAL? idk bc this is my first time ordering such a mix

3. 𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐘𝐀𝐊𝐈 𝐆𝐘𝐎𝐙𝐀 🥟 ($12.80): The dish had 7 pieces, which is NUBBAD given the standard is only 5 pieces 🤣🤣 BUT nothing too special about this gyoza. I was expecting a slightly crispy texture due to the charred bottom, but it wasn't as crispy as I had hoped. The mentaiko sauce was just average, and the combination of gyoza + mentaiko sauce 🥟 didn't stand out much.

Overall, considering the price point, I don't think I'll be visiting Omote anytime soon unless I'm in the area and have a craving for chirashi dons. The prices are quite high, with all the dons being priced above $20. I suppose that's the price we pay for inflation 😭😭
