If you are visiting Osaka and you like shopping at department stores, you have to visit Umeda. There are just too many selections of nice things to see and buy there. It’s also a nice place to window-shop as you can see the variety of products sold in Japan, most of which are very creatively designed.

I went to Hankyu Umeda Main Store which was connected to the Umeda subway station.

At Basement level, there are many food and pastries stalls. One stall had super long queue, which was the Sugar Butter Tree stall selling sweets baked with blended butter and sugar on special cereal dough. As queue was too long, I did not buy it.

I went on to higher levels and the clothes’ designs were so pretty!

You can also find many other products in Hankyu, such as Sanrio merchandise, stationery, children’s clothes and Japanese school backpacks.

The backpacks look really cute and were very spacious plus lightweight. Each one could cost above 60000 yen though.

I was also amazed with the choices of pretty umbrellas there, with some costing above 10000 yen.

Can sense that the locals really value the quality of products that they use on daily basis.

I managed to buy 3 sets of clothes at Hankyu and there was discount plus tax rebate for tourists. Remember to bring your passport along when you shop.

By showing your passport to the staff, immediately you will get 5% discount. Then proceed to the tax refund counter at Basement 1 and the staff there would help you with the tax refund. There is no need to fill up complicated forms. Just need to show your passport and credit card that you used to make payment. You can opt to receive refund in cash as the refund’s processing fee for credit card is higher.

The staff at tax refund counter can speak Japanese, English and Mandarin.
