Ok, so I’ve got a question.

📣Are Homecoming Mums just a Texas thing?

Homecoming season is here — and if you’re from Texas, you know it’s more than just ribbons, football, and alumni events. Homecoming mums have been a tradition in Texas since the early 1900s and have since become a statement-making hallmark of high school life in the Lone Star State.

But some people have NEVER heard of a mum or even seen one!

📣What is the purpose of a mum?

The purpose of giving and wearing homecoming mums can be summed up in one word. TRADITION. Mums are a token of affection between a boy and a girl, or between a parent and a child. Let's admit it, it is just plain FUN and it gives you the opportunity to showcase your personality and school spirit!

The mums range in sizes and it’s always so fun to see everyone’s unique designs!

You’ll see some with bears on them, lights, some around the neck because they’re too huge to pin, some around the head like a headband, you’ll see hair bow mums, large garters, small garters, blinking lights, all pink ones and my favorites are the all white senior mums!!! I will be making my daughter her white mum and I’m so excited! Mum prices also range from around $30 for small all the way to about $1,000.. even more depending on what you want. When I tell you people go crazy.. THEY GO CRAZY!

📣Who buys the mums for homecoming?

Smaller versions, typically with ribbons about eighteen inches long, are attached to garters for boys to wear on their arm. Like a typical corsage/boutonnière exchange, a girl will typically buy her date's garter and a boy will buy his date's mum, although oftentimes parents will buy them for their sons and daughters.
