“do i really have to watch hamilton live when i can just stream the whole thing in HD on disney+?” was a question i asked myself before i sat down and purchased my $84 tickets for the cheapest cat in the sands theatre (the booking fee costs $4). 🤨

the answer to that question? yes.

that 84 dollars was worth every. single. cent. ✨

as someone who has been obsessed with the hamilton playlist for a good number of years, the experience of hearing some of my favourite songs live was so so so moving, i was brought to tears multiple times during the course of the show. the vocals of the actors were amazing, obviously, and seeing the way they move and dance just adds that extra touch to really feel the emotions of the lyrics deeply. 💔

as an extremely emotional person, i already knew that i would be crying during ‘satisfied’ but i didn’t expect to be crying THAT much, not just during that song but for many songs thereafter. especially during ‘burn’, oh my fkn god. to hear the lyrics “in clearing your name, you have ruined our lives” 😫LIVE??? insane experience. i was gagged. when ‘it’s quiet uptown’ was being sung… holy shit. i was a teary-eyed mess. a whole puddle. massacred at seat O21. the grief of losing someone permeated through me and tears rolled down my face uncontrollably. 🙂‍↕️❤️‍🩹

while the musical is full of many sad moments, there were also many humorous ones, including dance moves that weren’t in the recording you see on disney+ which really added a lot to the performance. i was deeply entertained by the british representation 🇬🇧 as well as the rap disses during the cabinet meetings (if you’re familiar with the soundtrack, you’d understand what i mean). every single act during hamilton was purposeful and enjoyable and those three hours flew by in a whiz. ⏳

now for a review of my seat.

the view of the stage from where i was seated was more than satisfactory for me. i saw someone complaining online that you can’t see the actors’ faces from the grand circle and i would say that, i don’t think being on the second floor would allow you to see the expressions of the actors that clearly either. being on the top floor lets you see the performance as a whole and the elevation of the sands theatre prevents you from being obstructed by anybody in front so no matter where you are seated, you will have a full view of the show. i was lucky to get a seat in the middle of the row so my view was very centralised but i don’t think you will be shortchanged even if you are sitting more towards the sides. looking down from where i was, i could even see the orchestra and conductor downstairs which was very intriguing for me because i didn’t know that the background music wouldn’t just be an audio recording. 🎻🎸

anyway, if you are still contemplating on whether or not to watch hamilton, you can stop hesitating now. it is truly worth experiencing and if you feel just a fraction of the awe i sustained during the musical, that would already make for an amazing, amazing show. 💫💓

with that, i hope you enjoy it as much as i did.

love,

stace
