I was Shocked😱 Grad School was like this➡️

1) I was shocked that everyone I knew kept working throughout grad school! I was told by several friends to quit my job so I can focus on school, and I honestly have mixed feelings about quitting my job. I was getting burnt out at my job, but wish I had kept it for the extra cash.

2) Everyone from my program has gained weight throughout grad school because of the stress and lack of time to do hobbies and fitness. Year 2 everyone is complaining about the extra weight. We have 1 more year to go lol. Also a lot of people have had mental health issues and stress with family or partners. Engagements have been broken up, and long term relationships have broken up. Grad school really tests your commitment to other parts of your life, and how supportive the people in your life will be when you’re busier!

3) Jobs are not promised ever, even if you go to grad school! Make sure you are getting the right experience you need, connecting with people, and going to any events you are able to! Make friends with your professors, and ask LOTS of questions! use any and all resources you can get your hands on!

4) choose your school wisely! Online schools typically don’t prepare you as much for your field than in-person schools (what I’ve seen and heard from people in my same field who also went to online schools). Don’t just go for ease, go for what is best for you, and what’s going to get your foot in the door with jobs, even if it costs a bit more!
