Happy Juneteenth 🤎🖤

Happy Juneteenth! In honor of Juneteenth I want to spotlight a black owned business I was able to visit. I went to my FIRST Silent Book Club meeting at Anti gentrification Coffee Club here in Memphis, TN. I must say this is one of the best experiences I’ve had so far this summer. I’m in a book club currently and we partnered with this business to have the silent book club.

A silent book club meeting is a social gathering where participants come together to read silently. Where people can meet in a public place and read with company. Sometimes groups spend the whole time reading in silence, other times they take breaks and discuss the book they’re reading or just chit chat. SBCs are different from traditional book clubs because they don't have assigned reading, a facilitator, or a rigid framework. Instead, participants bring their own books to read, and socializing is optional. SBCs are intended to be a safe space for introverts who might have trouble socializing, and some say they can be a low-pressure social opportunity.

This event was EVERYTHING! The coffee was amazing and the vibes were unmatched. I even got a little background on the business itself. I’m so happy I got to support a black owned business and that I got to experience something I’ll never forget. Would you do something like this? Have you attended a silent book club?
