Travelling fun facts: How deep is Chicago river?

So I was just walking across one of the bridges downtown that crosses the Chicago river, and became curious how deep it is?

I was just thinking about how it’s a similar height as cliff jumping where I’m from, and then about how I’ve never seen anyone jump off the bridge. Is it too dangerous or simply illegal?

Also on the note of the Chicago river, when I was walking on the river walk near the winery, there was a calm part of water with a railing and ladder in the water. Is there any reason why folks don’t swim in this part of town? Is it just too dirty? I don’t see any “no swimming” signs
