I can’t do my middle splits (yet) but here are the stretches I’m working on to learn them!
1. Straddle stretch
Sitting in a straddle for as long as I can. Stretching out side to side & leaning forward. Goal: to get your chest to touch the ground!
2. Butterfly
Stretch out your inner thighs and back with the butterfly stretch. Place your legs a little bit in front of you and lean over. Another option: sit up straight & get your knees to touch the floor.
3. Standing forward fold
This one is going to stretch out your hamstrings a little bit more than sitting in a straddle! It’s still great though when you’re learning to do the middle splits because this is the position you start off in.
4. Middle splits
Go down as far as you can. When you think you are at your max, breathe & try to go deeper on an exhale. Continue doing this for a minute or two and repeat. Take breaks if you need it! Stretching can be a little uncomfortable but it should never cause you pain.
