I remember the first time that I pitched someone. I was so nervous I wasn’t going to say the right thing or that I wasn’t ready and I would get blacklisted from the industry 😂 The thing is, that hotel probably doesn’t even remember me, or maybe never even saw the email because I didn’t follow up. Here’s what I’ve learned:
1️⃣ Contact Is Key
If you don’t have the right contact, then there’s no point in ever sending the email! Sure, sometimes you may get lucky and have that email forwarded, but, chances are most front desk workers are just going to ignore it and move on. Find the ones in charge of marketing by searching via website (Press, Media, Marketing) or by messaging them directly on social media.
2️⃣ Don’t Be Generic
I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but quality over quantity. You aren’t going to get responses if you are spamming everyone with the same basic email. You need to give them something unique & prove that you really paid attention and researched their brand. A little sucking up never hurt anyone.
3️⃣ Keep Your Media Kit Up To Date
The more numbers and statistics, the better! One of my favorite ways to showcase last partnerships is by using InfluenceKit. Numbers and real life examples of your past campaigns (whether you made them up or not) will speak louder than your social media following.
4️⃣ FOLLOW UP
This is seriously the most important one. Just today, I received an email from a tour company that hadn’t responded to me, THANKING me for following up because they didn’t realize their response never went through to me. And you guys? I got it. Don’t be afraid to follow up.
💫 Have you landed any hotel collabs yet? Are you wanting to?
