Has anyone ever told you to “keep your egg shells, they’re good for gardening?”

Well did you know that raw eggshells can take 10+ years to compose to the point it’s digestible for the plant?

This is a quick and easy way to speed up the process and put those eggshells to good use, even if you don’t have a vegetable garden.

Collect your eggshells, I collected about a months worse before smashing. I collect them in a flower pot but a bowl works as well.

Once I’ve collected enough, I boil water and slowly pour them in and stir for 20 minutes. I also will add other things like today I added chicken bones but you can also add wood cuttings, food scraps, etc. the only thing I do not recommend adding is onions as they can be harmful to plants.

Once it’s boiled enough I let it cook before straining.

After it’s cooled enough, I wrap a small burlap bag around a pickle jar and scoop the eggshells into the bag, then I pour the rest in. I let that sit until I’m ready to use it in the garden.

This broth is a great source of calcium for your plants, if you do not have a vegetable garden, you can use it for houseplants as well.

Happy gardening!
