How a HDB cat cured my depression 🐱

I got diagnosed with depression + anxiety 2 years ago. It was a pretty bleak time. Nothing sparked joy. I got married and bought a house that year and I felt… nothing. Kosong. Completely dead inside.

Then I met this void deck cat. My husband first spotted him when we were house hunting and he brought me back to see him because in his words, “omg you will love him”.

It was love at first sight. How could I not? Just look at that flabby tummy!! It’s ridiculous!! He’s also super friendly, so there’s that. Playing with his flabby tummy (lol) is joy in its purest form. It felt like my first real dose of serotonin in MONTHS.

We eventually bought a unit around the area and I became fully invested. I would visit him almost every day during our 3-month renovation process, bringing him food, water, treats and even toys. Which he ignored 🫠

To be fair, I had already started on therapy and a cocktail of meds. But walking over from our old place to feed this tubby cat gave me a routine and a sense of purpose. Plus I’m sure the endorphins and fresh air helped.

My friends call him my therapy cat, which really isn’t that far from the truth. I wonder if this silly cat knows just how much he has helped in my mental health recovery.

Aaaaaaaanyway my point is, HDB cats are amazing and should be treasured/better protected!! And yes, of course I brought him home eventually. He now lords over the house like he owns the place 😂
