I woke up this morning to find my monstera just flopped from its pot. It’s always been tall and heavy and needed a support rod in the middle to keep it up. Sadly it pulled the stick out of the soil and brought it down also.

I didn’t have a larger pot or even soil so I decided to propagate my monstera.

Propagating is an easy and cheap way to start new and create more plants! If done properly this method is so simple.

All you need are pruning scissors, a vase (I used a pitcher and vase), and of course some water.

The most important step is to cut BELOW the nodes!

Nodes are the the bits of the stems where you see new leaves/stems growing from.

DO NOT CUT THE NODES.

Roots will grow from the nodes while they’re in the water. Cutting on the node will only kill the stem and cause your stem to rot within the water.

You’ll want to change your water out weekly. Personally I replace the water once it starts to get low. I’m a lazy plant mom, but surprisingly I’ve only killed maybe 2 plants in almost 10 years of having indoor plants.

You’ll see new growth and roots within 3-4 weeks.

Monsteras need bright indirect sunlight. So a bright room, just away from window contact.
