How I Manage Having A Dog As A College Student

I adopted my first dog as a senior in college, but had been fostering for about a year before. While it is absolutely difficult to manage with classes and other priorities, having a happy dog as a college student is definitely doable!

My main focuses are to be able to care for him both financially and physically.

Physically, he gets all of my free time. I wish I was kidding. I’m with my dog almost 24/7 since he has terrible separation anxiety. This has meant saying no to plans, finding dog-friendly activities outside of my apartment, and taking breaks from studying to take him for walks/outings.

Financially, I did not let myself adopt him until I had a steady income and had $1k saved up for emergencies. I also have pet insurance for him in case anything bigger comes up.
