Next Michelin restaurant to try in Penang

One restaurant that really exceeded our expectations in our stay at Penang will be

📍Sambal 三佰

Will highly recommend to book a reservation before coming, was lucky to score a walk-in on a Sunday evening. Not only was the service impeccable, the service crew took the effort to explain most of their dishes in the menu Andy hey even ask if any one of us had any dietary allergies✨ I think this is a rare practice in most restaurant these days or perhaps the ones that I have been to

Sambal is a Teochew restaurant with a modern twist and it’s not Halal certified unfortunately. I see this as a great pick for family, couple or even friends to try out Teochew food

Some dishes ordered:

👉French pork liver inspired meatball

This was really crispy on the outside with the right crust and the filling was generous with pork & mushroom. Not a fan of pork liver or organ in general but this did not reek of any smell

👉Udang untangled

The soup is a literal perfection; it’s creamy and milky, I risked my lactose intolerant self for this and it’s super worth it✨ it was v appetising and it’s Paired really well with the huge Chinese drunken prawn and glass noodles👀

👉Lap mei fan

Served with really fatty char Siew, Chinese sausage; it’s all well blended together with the sauce and rice. It also came together with their home made sambal to elevate the taste, first time also trying lap mei fan with sambal

👉Fish skin with salted egg

If you are a fan of Irvins salted egg fish skin, you will def like this one and this goes great with drinks🤩 I think it was too big of a portion for 2 to share and I think this is a great dish to order in a bigger group setting.

Super yum, it’s like dessert in a drink, the staff recommended this after the meal because it should be serve like a dessert and I wholeheartedly agree. Can’t remember what kind of alcohol was used for this but the creaminess of the coconut taste and gula melaka really triump with This one✨However, this can be q jer lat esp for one person to finish by themselves🥲

👉chrysanthemum w vodka

If you like chrysanthemum, you will def like this one, it has a sweet aftertaste paired with the vodka, kind of felt like I was drinking Yeo’s chrysanthemum tea with alcoholic version heheh🫶🏼
