I #LoveMyself through keeping my body healthy with exercise, but is there such a thing as too much exercise?

I tested out the limits when I signed up for a trial at Haus Athletics ($50 for 7 days, which works out to about $7 a class each day — a STEAL) and went for a class everyday.

In terms of my usual routine, I go with a 5-day training week, but this is a much lower intensity with strength training being the bulk of it. HIIT, on the other hand, is something I love to hate because of how good it makes me feel AFTER.

To keep things interesting, Haus Athletics alternates between 4 different types of classes throughout the week. Yay me! Different pain every day🤘🤩

Here’s a short log of how my classes went:

Day 1️⃣: Sleep deprivation is not a cute look and I couldn’t sleep the night before bcus I was so stressed about the entire week (work stress is tough) 🥲

On the menu was Leanout, which focuses on switching between strength and cardio (the instructor told me this is their hardest class LMAO can u believe it, on a MONDAY). It was pretty brutal, with burpees, push-ups, mountain climbers…a never-ending amount.

Day 2️⃣: My chest and shoulders were BURNING when I woke up 🥵

Today’s class was Meltdown, a cardio-intense HIIT class which aims to burn as much calories as possible.

If I thought Monday was exhausting, this was a real slap in the face. I was breathless at the 10-minute mark and I continued being breathless for the remainder of the 45-minute class.

Day 3️⃣: This was probably my favourite class — Dominate, which focuses on heavier weights and less cardio (hehe).

It’s lower in intensity which made it more bearable than the day before.

Day 4️⃣: I was really starting to feel the effects of non-stop exercise and I woke up dreading class. My friend also ditched me so it made it 100x worse.

Remixed focuses on both strength, endurance, and cardio, so it’s really a mix and a horrible mix at that.

Hated it, maybe slightly loved it, I just wanted to be done with it.

Day 5️⃣: Leanout again… Same shit except my body was in shambles and I really didn’t want to be here.

Day 6️⃣: I ALMOST MISSED CLASS BCUS I WAS SO LAZY AND TIRED TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE but I barely made it!!!!!

There’s a mix of all classes on weekends but the only one I could make was Dominate, which I was kind of glad too.

Day 7️⃣: okay haha I’m a little bit deliRIOUS from the hardcore workouts ngL I’m so glad this little experiment is over (haha who am I’m kidding I booked in for another class on Monday) 😵‍💫🤦‍♀️

🏋️‍♀️

If you can’t tell, I’m really tired and just glad this is over.

While many outlets recommend at least 30-minutes of exercise a day, I don’t believe that this is necessarily the case. I think rest days are really important to prevent over exercising and burnout. My mood peaked around Tuesday and Wednesday, but it had a sharp dip after.

At the fourth day, I was really not feeling it and this feeling of dread continued to linger within me for the remaining days.

If you’re going to dread your exercise, there’s no point in it bcus you won’t be enjoying it. The endorphins won’t feel as good as when you look forward to your classes.

I think a good mix would be around 2 to 3 HIIT classes a week and 2 to 3 strength training sessions in between! HIIT is really taxing on the body so rest is a MUST to let you recuperate.

THAT BEING SAID, I really appreciated the energy at Haus Athletics and loved the workouts! I’d recommend giving them a go if you haven’t 😝🤘

Have you ever experienced burnout from overexercising?
