Climb the Rock of Guatape

If you're visiting Medellin and looking for a quick day trip, I recommend climbing to the top of the Rock of Guatape.

You don't need a tour guide to experience this climb, just make sure you get to the site early. The later in the day, the more chance for higher crowds and more congested stairways as you try to make it to the top.

There are over 600 steps to make it to the top and I was told that the record to beat for fastest time is under 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Now, there is no race to get to the top, and they do have medical stations at different checkpoints, depending on your athletic ability.

I will say, it is pretty challenging, but definitely doable. You'll probably notice that by step 250 or so that you start to breathe heavier and feel like you need to take a break or two. That's totally normal!

Once you make it to the top, you'll have refreshment tents, chairs and shops waiting for you after you check out the beautiful views of Guatape (last slide)!
