Cheap Things To Do in Bucharest, Romania

If you're a traveler on a budget, Romania is the perfect spot for you. Outside of reasonable cost for hotel accommodations, Ubers, and meals, there are also a lot of affordable attractions to visit that are either free to see or under $50.

Here are my top picks if you're trying to travel for less in Bucharest, Romania:

1. Visit the inside of the famous bookstore of Carturesti Carusel. It's a 3 store bookstore filled with all kinds of trinkets and items. You'll see many people hanging out and reading or taking photos of the beautiful space. Price: Free!

2. Walk a little bit outside of Old Town to view the artesian fountains that were built during the communist period. I found this to be insane and couldn't believe how many fountains there were in one area. If you're lucky enough to be staying over the weekend, be sure to check out the night time light show that starts at 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Price: Free!

3. Walking around Old Town is a must. You'll get a good sense of the history and see the contrast that is shown throughout Bucharest due to the communist period. Cost: Free!

4. If you're wanting to visit Transylvania, this is a really easy day trip. You can take a $20 round trip train ride to Brasov or you can book a $50 tour to see Brasov, Peles Castle, and Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle). It's a little hard to get to all of that in one day without a car, so if seeing castles is on your list, you should definitely book a tour.
