The story of Uncle Lee’s Confectionary has been well publicised thanks to TSL’s Eatbook feature ~ I pre-ordered their signature peanut cake as a treat to myself in the new year 🤪

Here’s what I liked about it:

🔘 Easy to eat (and store) - best served at room temperature, their nostalgic peanut buttercream cake is no-frills, has a very light sponge and isn’t too sweet or jelak at all. Think chiffon cake but vanilla flavoured with roasted peanuts. Refrigerate only if you’re planning to save it over a few days.

🔘 Not exorbitantly priced - even with the whole Eatbook hype and renewed marketing, their prices remain relatively affordable with full-sized cakes ranging from $14 to $30.

🔘 Family-run bakery - I like to know that I’m supporting Uncle Lee’s family business and not an overly commercialised establishment!

To be honest, this is not a MUST TRY for me as I still prefer specialty cakes. Not sure I would go through the order of pre-ordering, but I do think this would be a fun treat for folks who appreciate old school flavours, or as a simple gift for casual gatherings (if regular cakes are too over-the-top for the occasion).

Other items on the menu include their signature kaya cake, banana cake, and custard puffs. They’ve even added MSW durian pandan layered cake more recently for the durian lovers. Check them out HERE or at their physical store in Bugis!
